Bryan says:
These mentors are my heroes. They appear in my life when I need them, making my life full and rich. I will never be one hero short. Never. Therefore, my world is perfect just as it is. Could it be that I also am somebody's hero, making their world perfect just as it is? I must ponder this and make it a matter of prayer. For I understand, in as much as I have had such gifts showered on me, I am, as a result, empowered to shower those same gifts on others. What could be more perfect?

Dick was irreplaceable.
But so are you. I hope you will use your time away from the parish to find new ways to make a difference. But not for the institutional church, which, as you mention, is in decline (and which is way too focused on itself). Find new ways to make a difference for God.
I'm glad Dick helped you see something worthwhile in parish ministry. Keep leading.
